As people who actually own cats, we know that when people say that cats are not affectionate creatures, they don't know what the heck they are talking about. Cats are incredibly affectionate. Cats love their humans truly and fully. And if you don't believe that, then you have clearly never seen a cat have a favorite human. Because oh, they have them. 

Some cats are affectionate to everyone - we call them velcro cats, and so you can't tell, maybe it's just the cat's purrsonality. But other cats hate everyone… except their chosen humans. They will hiss at everyone else, but with their faves, they will cuddle, they will purr, they will follow them around everywhere. These bonds are unbreakable. Once you are chosen, it's over, you will have that cat's love for literally forever. And if you create that bond with a stray cat… that cat is stray no more. That cat is yours, and it is coming with you everywhere.

    This handsome fellow is not my cat but i call him Big Guy, others call him Birdie because well he likes to eats birds. I've lived at my apartment for 3 years now & he was here before I moved in. From what my neighbors tell me he's been living on the property for 8+ years and he's never let anyone pet him or come near him, except for me.

    He's become my best mate. We have a really close bond now, He lives on my patio & patio furniture. He walks with me and my 2 dogs, follows us every where I go, he even meets me at my car when I pull up even if he's far away, he'll come running to meet me & walk with me to my apartment.

    He comes in every day to nap, eat & get treats and pets from me and plays with my dogs, when it storms out he comes running to my apartment to be let in, fire works going off or when the ground crew comes to cut out grass, he comes running for my place or I go looking for him & will find him hiding in a bush. But normally he's waiting at my patio door.

    I love this big guy but I'm torn because I'm in the works on buying my first house for my dogs and I and I'm not sure if I should bring him with me, I want too but a part of me says he's made this apartment complex his home after so many years & I shouldn't take him from that. What do I do?

  • Worrying about this is fair, and honestly, all it does is show just how good of a cat owner you will be. The fact that you worry about the cat first is what makes you the best choice for it. And it clearly looks like he has chosen you. Take the cat. It's time.

  • It is okay. Listen to your gut. You know this cat is yours and you are the cat's. And if things go wrong, bring it back. We trust you to do it - to put the cat first. But we know, in our guts, that you guys are meant to be together.

    boobmkbasket If you don't you'll always wonder what would happen if you did, and worst case scenario unless your moving like very far away if it doesn't go swell and you can tell it's not good for him you can always take him back Lol

    Wonderful-Volume6933 OP I've thought about that as well, many times. I lay in bed at night telling myself I'll come check on him weekly to make sure he's ok and eating but then I'm like why am I even thinking like that? I'm taking his chunky with me

    FleksMeks Take him with you. He can adjust to a new space, but he'll never understand why you left. He clearly chose you as his pet parent and would just end up confused and sad if you left him behind

    Wonderful-Volume6933 OP I already have one for him, I have taken him to the vet a few times. I've also bought cat tower's & cat box for when he stays in for long periods of time so he has his own space. He's with me 95% of his day, he really only wonders off at night to go on his " nightly patrol" lol
